Free workshops on Byzantine music and palaeography
From February to June 2022, the REVIVART Association is organizing free workshops on Byzantine music and palaeography as part of the cultural project “Recovery and restoration of the kalophonic heirmoi from the musical collections of 18th and 19th c.“, co-financed by the Administration of the National Cultural Fund (AFCN).
During the five months of the project, will be organized 20 workshops on performance techniques applied to the genre of kalophonic heirmoi and initiation in Byzantine musical paleography. The activities will take place ONLINE, on the ZOOM platform.
The musical interpretation courses will be given by Archdeacon Dr. Gabriel Constantin Oprea from the National University of Music Bucharest (UNMB), conductor of the Stavropoleos Choir. During the workshops, participants will study some unpublished kalophonic heirmoi, restored from various old notations by the research assistant Cătălin Cernătescu.
The music palaeography workshops will be coordinated by Dr Ion-Andrei Țârlescu from the Romanian Academy and will consist of studying elements of codicology, musicological analysis and dating techniques of 17th-19th century music manuscripts.
The aim of the project is to reintroduce into the performance circuit some unpublished creations preserved by Byzantine music manuscripts.
The partners of the Association are the National University of Music Bucharest (UNMB), the National Library of Romania, the television station “Trinitas TV” of the Romanian Patriarchate, the radio station “Lumina” of the Diocese of Severin and Strehaia, the Theological Seminary “Chesarie Episcopul” in Buzău, the Orthodox Theological Seminary “Sf.
